Saudi Arabia Consumer Electronics Market Outlook

The Saudi Arabia consumer electronics market is undergoing a dynamic transformation, fueled by rapid digitalization, rising disposable incomes, and an ambitious national vision toward tech-driven living. With smartphone penetration exceeding 97% in 2024, the Saudi Arabia consumer electronics ecosystem reflects a maturing yet aspirational market where innovation and brand appeal strongly influence purchasing decisions. As the Kingdom pushes forward with Vision 2030, the role of smart devices, home entertainment, and connected living will only deepen across consumer segments—especially among the nation’s growing base of millennial and Gen Z users.

Aspirational Living with a Premium Edge

In the Saudi Arabia consumer electronics sector, consumer preferences are sharply skewed toward high-performance, branded, and tech-forward products. Smartphones remain the centerpiece of digital lifestyles, with flagship models like the iPhone 15 and Samsung Galaxy S24 dominating sales. The Kingdom’s mobile-first culture, bolstered by high-speed internet and extensive 5G coverage, has made smartphones essential not only for communication but also for streaming, gaming, and digital payments. Smart TVs and home entertainment systems are another growth frontier. As streaming platforms like Netflix, Shahid, and Amazon Prime grow in popularity, consumers are investing in immersive audio-visual experiences. LG reported a 28% YoY increase in OLED TV sales in Saudi Arabia in 2023, as more households shifted to premium home entertainment systems. Models such as Samsung QLED and LG OLED TVs are increasingly common in urban households seeking cinematic quality and smart connectivity.

Further, the rise of gaming consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X), wearables (Apple Watch, STC wearables), and smart home devices (Google Nest, Amazon Echo) indicate a consumer base that’s both tech-aware and brand-conscious. Interestingly, the average household spent SAR 8,500 (~USD 2,260) on electronics in 2023, a figure set to rise as digital infrastructure and lifestyle habits evolve. While consumers remain aware of pricing, quality, innovation, and brand reputation consistently outweigh cost considerations—particularly among Saudi Arabia’s youth, who are defining the next wave of consumerism.

Digital Lifestyles, E-Commerce, and Youth Influence

A convergence of digital trends and demographic shifts is propelling the Saudi Arabia consumer electronics industry into its next growth phase. The country’s youthful population, with over 60% under the age of 35, has accelerated adoption of new technologies and created a sustained demand for personal and household electronics. One of the strongest market catalysts is the rise of e-commerce. Retail platforms like Noon.com and Jarir Bookstore reported a 35% spike in online electronics sales during Ramadan 2024, highlighting the success of promotional campaigns and the convenience of online shopping. Seasonal sales, fast delivery, and installment payment options have made digital channels the preferred purchasing route, especially for urban middle- and upper-income consumers. The Kingdom’s entertainment evolution has also played a pivotal role. With cinemas reopened and streaming platforms thriving, consumers are upgrading home entertainment setups, sound systems, and gaming accessories. Add to this the rollout of 5G networks, and Saudi consumers now expect faster, smarter, and more connected experiences across all electronic devices.

Moreover, increased disposable incomes and urbanization are reshaping consumer behavior. As Saudi households become more tech-integrated, the demand for IoT-enabled devices, energy-saving appliances, and smart home automation tools is growing, supported by a blend of aspiration and necessity.

Shaping a Smart Future

Government regulation and brand innovation are both key to sustaining momentum in the Saudi Arabia consumer electronics sector. At the heart of this is Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to digitize the national economy through smart cities (like NEOM), widespread IoT deployment, and green tech infrastructure. This agenda is pushing manufacturers and retailers to develop and market energy-efficient electronics, in alignment with the Kingdom’s focus on sustainability and digital efficiency.

Notable industry developments highlight the confidence that global brands have in Saudi Arabia’s electronics market. In October 2023, Apple opened its largest showroom in Riyadh, signaling deepened investment and direct-to-consumer engagement. In early 2024, Samsung launched its SmartThings ecosystem across the Kingdom, integrating IoT-enabled appliances that can communicate seamlessly via smartphones, voice assistants, and wearables. Local players are also stepping up. STC (Saudi Telecom Company) has entered the smart devices space with competitively priced wearables and tablets, offering a domestic alternative in a space traditionally dominated by international giants. These moves align with broader regulatory trends promoting local innovation, digital access, and consumer empowerment.
