Regulatory pressure around product sustainability and lifecycle transparency also continues reshaping connected device strategies among consumer electronics manufacturers. In 2024, the European Union enacted the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation to strengthen sustainability, repairability, and lifecycle disclosure requirements across a broad range of products, including connected electronics and household devices. Our findings indicate that these requirements are encouraging manufacturers to expand embedded monitoring capabilities, software-driven optimization features, and long-term connected product support strategies.
